Welcome to NAMI Nebraska

NAMI Nebraska is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to education, support and advocacy with anyone whose life has been touched by mental illness. We believe in recovery and the hope for a better future. NAMI Nebraska helps unite parents, spouses, siblings, friends, and people who have a mental illness together with mental health professionals to fight for improved treatment, a better quality of life and recovery.

Individuals identify recovery as being an ongoing journey and an end result as well as an overall paradigm for achieving wellness and optimal mental health. NAMI Nebraska is available to support persons on their road to recovery by providing respect and peer support. Consumers have a personal responsibility for their own self-care and journeys of recovery. NAMI Nebraska provides the support for individuals and families on their journey.

Presentation by Dr. Wengel from UNO for NAMI Omaha

NAMI Omaha will be having a very informative presentation on August 2nd from Dr. Wengel, Psychiatrist, and Assistant Vice Chancellor for Campus Wellness at UNMC/UNO. Dr. Steven Wengel has over 32 years of experience in psychiatry, mostly in geriatric psychiatry at UNMC. He will speak about dementia, Alzheimer’s, and other psychiatric issues in older adults. A light meal is served at 6 pm. No charge for the meal.

Where: First United Methodist Church, 7020 Cass St., Omaha, NE 68132. Park in the parking lot on the East side of the church, just off 69th St, Enter at Door 4 and proceed to Room 112. Signs will direct you to Room 112.



Free course for family members, partners, and friends of individuals with mental illnesses/brain disorders

A series of 12 classes (1 session weekly) structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. Includes information about mental illnesses, medications, coping, resources, problem-solving, empathy, and family communication. These courses are sponsored by NAMI Omaha with assistance for materials from Region 6 Behavioral Health Services.

NAMI Omaha Affiliate Meetings

The NAMI Omaha affiliate meeting offers speakers on subjects of mental health, projects, and others matters of the affiliate.

There is a parking lot located on the East side of the Church just off of 69th and Cass Streets. Enter through Door 4 on the East side and follow the NAMI Omaha signs to Room 112.

Weather cancellations

When the local public schools in the city or town that a meeting is held are closed, there will be no NAMI Nebraska meetings. If there is also a severe storm watch or tornado warning issued by the National Weather Center, the meeting is considered canceled.
