Welcome to NAMI Nebraska

NAMI Nebraska is a 501(c) (3) nonprofit, grassroots organization dedicated to education, support and advocacy with anyone whose life has been touched by mental illness. We believe in recovery and the hope for a better future. NAMI Nebraska helps unite parents, spouses, siblings, friends, and people who have a mental illness together with mental health professionals to fight for improved treatment, a better quality of life and recovery.

Individuals identify recovery as being an ongoing journey and an end result as well as an overall paradigm for achieving wellness and optimal mental health. NAMI Nebraska is available to support persons on their road to recovery by providing respect and peer support. Consumers have a personal responsibility for their own self-care and journeys of recovery. NAMI Nebraska provides the support for individuals and families on their journey.

Sprout is a free, full-day conference focused on building community among people with lived experience of mental health and substance use challenges, as well as family and allies.

This year we have a very exciting day of activities planned, including a keynote presentation from Chris Hansen, the director of Intentional Peer Support!

We will also have a series of breakout sessions focused on this year’s themes – Community Engagement and Healthy People/Healthy Communities.

As a part of the Region 6 Community Development Project, Sprout 2018 is proud to be consumer-led from start to finish. If you or someone you know are interested in volunteering to support this event or the Region 6 Community Development Project please contact Jennifer Determan at 402.444.7718 or [email protected]. All interested volunteers are welcome! Anyone interested in writing, performing, or theater should also check out our free playwriting workshop (see the attached flyer) which will also offer opportunities for participation in the Sprout Conference.

EDUCATION PROGRAMS

Free course for family members, partners, and friends of individuals with mental illnesses/brain disorders

A series of 12 classes (1 session weekly) structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. Includes information about mental illnesses, medications, coping, resources, problem-solving, empathy, and family communication. These courses are sponsored by NAMI Omaha with assistance for materials from Region 6 Behavioral Health Services.

NAMI BASICS: A free 6-week course for parents of children and adolescents with severe emotional or mental health issues. Includes how to work with schools.

NAMI Nebraska Consumer Council Application

Did you know that NAMI Nebraska has a Consumer Council and we have been advising the state Board of Directors since 2008? We are made up of representatives from across the state and from local affiliates and partners. If you are interested in joining people living with mental illness in advocating for change, education, and inclusion (or know someone who would) please consider applying for a position on the council by filling out (or sharing) the application found here and returning it to NAMI Nebraska.
