NAMI Family to Family

This 12 week course is for families and friends of individuals with brain disorders called mental illness. The course is instructed by trained family members who have lived the experiences of those taking the course. Many family members describe the impact of this program as life changing. Join the thousands of families just like yours who have gained information, insight, understanding and empowerment.
  • Family responses to the trauma of mental illness
  • Schizophrenia, major depression and mania: diagnosis and dealing with critical periods
  • The biology of the brain: emerging scientific discoveries
  • Depression and bipolar subtypes; panic disorder; obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD); borderline personality disorder; co-occurring brain and addictive disorders
  • Problem solving workshop
  • Medication review
  • Understanding the inner experience of having a mental illness
  • Communication skills workshop
  • Self-care; relative group testimony
  • Rehabilitation, services available
  • Advocacy: fighting stigma
  • Celebration and certification ceremony




Winter 2018

Free course for family members, partners, and friends of individuals with mental illnesses/brain disorders

A series of 12 classes (1 session weekly) structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with mental illness while maintaining their own well-being. Includes information about mental illnesses, medications, coping, resources, problem-solving, empathy, and family communication. These courses are sponsored by NAMI Omaha with assistance for materials from Region 6 Behavioral Health Services.  

Mondays: Begins March 12, 6:30 -9 pm REGISTRATION BY MARCH 1, 2018.
